Medicinal Actions

Colic, Antilithic, Antioxidant, Antispasmodic, Astringent, Carminative, Deodorant, Depurative, Diaphoretic, Diuretic, Emetic, Litholytic, Sedative, Stimulant, Stomachic, Tonic

General Dosage

1–4 g dry root, or in tea, 3 ×/day; 1–4 ml liquid root extract; 1–4 ml liquid root extract 3 ×/day; 30–40 drops 1:2 tincture 3–5 ×/day; 2–8 ml root tincture 3 ×/day; 2–8 ml root tincture.

Safety & Contraindications

Class 1. None listed. In view of the lack of pharmacological and toxicological data, excessive use, especially during lactation and pregnancy, should be avoided. Overdose can cause colic, nausea, and pain, irritating the mucus lining of the GI tract, sometimes dizziness and strangury.
