General Dosage
250–500 mg bromelain 3 ×/day; 80–320 raw mg bromelain/day. Fruit food farmacy.
Safety & Contraindications
Class 1. Not covered. “Health hazards not known with proper therapeutic dosages”. Some people may be allergic to bromelain. Side effects include allergy, diarrhea, GI problems, metrorrhagia, nausea, and vomiting. May augment antiaggregant or anticoagulant activity of other blood thinners. Bromelain may increase blood and urinary levels of tetracyclines or other antibiotics. Large doses of ripe fruit juice are reported to cause uterocontractions, so it might be contraindicated in pregnancy.
