General Dosage

1.5–6 g fruit; 1–2 tsp crushed seed/cup water 2–4 ×/day, between meals; chew 1 tsp seed 3–4 ×/day; 0.5–2 g powdered seed; 0.05–0.2 ml concentrated seed water; 0.5–1 tsp tincture up to 3 ×/day; 3–4 ml liquid extract 3–4 ×/day; 3–6 drops oil; 0.05–0.2 ml caraway oil.

Class 1. None known.“Hazards and/or side effects not known for proper therapeutic dosages”. We might extend to all apiaceous oils Bisset’s comments on celeryseed oil, “The drug is contraindicated in inflammation of the kidneys,” since apiaceous EOs may increase the inflammation as a result of epithelial irritation. Overdoses for long periods can lead to kidney and/or liver damage.
