Safety & Contraindications
Not covered. As with peanut and soybean, some people are dangerously allergic to Brazilnut. Consumer Reports is quite conservative in pointing out the hazards of selenium, they say 1000 µg or more per day can cause loss of fingernails and hair; very high doses can cause diarrhea, fatigue, nausea, and even nerve damage. But it certainly can’t hurt to try getting plenty of selenium from the diet.
